A vehicle’s exhaust pipe is designed to guide its exhaust in a safe direction, as a lot of the gases that are emitted are toxic and combustible. Furthermore, the exhaust pipe reduces the pollutants in the exhaust and reduces noise. The exhaust consists of many small parts, including manifold, catalytic converter and a silencer. Depending on the type of the vehicle, it may not include all the parts that I mentioned above (silencer, manifold and catalytic converter). Exhaust Manifold Parts
The manifold is the first step in a car’s exhaust system. It’s the part of the exhaust that is attached to the cylinder head of the engine. Its role is guiding the air produced of the engines combustion cycle away, and combining the exhaust air from each and every cylinder into a single pipe. Most exhaust manifolds are made of steel or cast iron, even though some aftermarket manufacturers spray them with ceramic over the steel which acts to improve longevity, performance and ease of cleaning.
Catalytic Converter Parts
The catalytic converter is the area in the exhaust system responsible for eliminating the pollutants found in the exhausted air. In many areas, operating a vehicle without a properly fitted and functioning catalytic convert is illegal. The catalytic converter is usually a large box attached to the end of the cylinder head. It’s usually self-contained, however, there are several clamps and hangers which are used to hold it more firmly and safe.
Silencer Parts
Also known as a muffler, the silencer is generally the last part of the vehicle’s exhaust system and is responsible for the noise produced by the engine and exhaust system. It’s one of the most heavy and large mechanical components and usually needs to be replaced under some circumstances. Clamps are also used here to ensure it hands securely from the underside of the car.
Buying exhaust parts online requires a lot of knowledge on the matter, therefore it’s recommended that you do some research on the subject, or contact a mechanic or a manufacturer to get advice. The exhaust system is of utmost importance and should be taken care of properly.
